The Canadian Registry of Wrongful Convictions is pleased to share this article from the University of Toronto.

The Canadian Registry of Wrongful convictions is happy to announce the release of its latest report, which provides extensive commentary on Bill C-40. This law was introduced in the Parliament of Canada on February 16, 2023 and proposes to replace the role of the federal Minister of Justice in reviewing wrongful convictions with a Miscarriage of Justice Review Commission.

One of the purposes of the Canadian Registry of Wrongful Convictions is to facilitate research on patterns and trends in wrongful convictions. We are happy to announce that our first research report has now been released to coincide with the Registry’s official launch on February 21, 2023.

February 10, 2023 was the 67th anniversary of the hanging of Wilbert Coffin. Many believe he was wrongfully convicted and did not receive a fair trial.

October 2nd is the annual wrongful convictions day designed to raise and maintain awareness about wrongful convictions.

David Milgaard, who spent 23 years in prison wrongfully convicted of murder, died in May 2022, just weeks after announcing that he would be stepping back from his advocacy for wrongfully convicted persons to spend more time with his family.
